Hi! I’m Malena Billekvist and I run Sweden Yoga Retreats. In this post, I’ll share my personal story and the concept behind my yoga retreats. If you’ve ever wanted to deepen your yoga practice in a paradise like the Maldives, you’re in the right place. You’ll also get to know me better through this post. I’ve been a yoga teacher for over 10 years and have a broad background in health and wellness. Besides yoga, I’m also a personal trainer and acupuncturist, educated in Gothenburg and Hangzhou, China. I run my own salon where I offer skincare, massage, acupuncture, and foot care, and I’ve worked as a PT at Endorfin in Lerum.

The Path to Yoga – My Background and Journey
I have been involved in health and wellness all my life. At the age of 15, I started leading group fitness classes, and since then, I have continuously developed in the field. My passion for helping others achieve their full well-being has driven me to educate myself in several different disciplines, and I have worked professionally in this area since 2003.
My journey has taken me from Gothenburg to Hangzhou, China, where I trained as a traditional acupuncturist. I am also a certified personal trainer via The Academy, an authorized skin therapist, and have education in medical foot care and sports massage. As a health coach, I have specialized in stress management and have completed several yoga trainings, which have given me a broad understanding of body and mind in balance.
It was precisely this deep and versatile background that led me to start Sweden Yoga Retreats. My vision for the company is to create a place where people can escape the stress of everyday life and truly immerse themselves in their yoga practice in some of the world’s most inspiring locations, such as the Maldives, one of the most beautiful places on Earth. I want to offer a holistic experience where each participant can reconnect with themselves, find inner balance, and return home with new energy and insights. Our retreats are held in appealing locations, including a serene villa in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka.

My Role as a Yoga Instructor and Guide
As a yoga instructor and guide, I will lead you through the whole journey. I will guide you through the yoga practice with technical precision and presence, adapting the practice to each individual’s needs and abilities. I want you to leave the retreat with more energy, insights, and tools to use in your daily life. I hope you take away a deeper understanding of yourself and a sense of inner balance that will last long after the retreat is over. My Holistic View on Beauty and Health
What makes me different as an instructor is that I bridge two worlds – the Eastern and the Western – in my teaching and philosophy. I combine traditional Eastern wisdom – acupuncture and yoga – with Western fitness and health and create a holistic experience that looks at the inner and outer body. I believe strongly that these two are connected and true well-being is when they work together in harmony.
I believe in mixing different forms of exercise – strength training, yoga, and aerobic exercise – to have a complete and balanced approach to health. This way, my retreats don’t just focus on one aspect of well-being but offer a holistic approach that strengthens body and soul. And surfing is one of the additional activities available at the retreats to top up the tropical experience and your well-being by integrating yoga with surfing for a truly holistic vacation.

- What can I expect from a Sweden Yoga Retreat? A combination of yoga, meditation, acupuncture, stress management, and other holistic tools to nourish body and soul. And handpicked, exclusive destinations like the Maldives, where you can relax and find your inner balance with the breathtaking Indian Ocean as a serene backdrop for your yoga sessions.
- Do I need prior yoga experience? No, you don’t need any yoga experience to join our retreats. Our programs are for all levels, from beginners to advanced. Each participant gets personal guidance and support to progress at their own pace.
- What should I bring to a retreat? You will get a packing list after registration, but in general, comfortable workout clothes, a yoga mat, and maybe a notebook are recommended. We will make sure you have everything you need to feel comfortable and relaxed during the retreat.
- How far in advance should I book my retreat? We recommend booking as early as possible as spots are limited and our retreats fill up fast. Booking early also gives you more time to mentally and practically prepare for the trip.
